Think They’re Harmless?
When it rains your home’s little devils cause a big problem for everyone. Rain picks up oil, lawn clippings, chemicals and pet waste as it flows into storm drains or gutters. That water carries the pollutants directly to our local streams, lakes and rivers, where we swim and play. These pollutants can also affect our drinking water. By working together, we can positively impact our water and keep it clean for everyone to enjoy.
- Pet waste
- Leaking cars and used motor oil spills
- Excess fertilizer and yard waste from lawns
- Household trash (plastic bags, bottles and cigarette butts) carried into our water can kill fish, birds and other aquatic animals.
- Loose soil from your yard is picked up by rain water. This soil clouds water and makes it difficult for aquatic plants to grow, destroying habitat for water-loving animals.
